Elmhurst Area Sports Group Representative,

On August 5, the Elmhurst Park District Board of Park Commissioners voted unanimously to give residents the choice to fund high-priority projects identified by the community through a referendum on the November 5, 2024 ballot. As a key stakeholder in the Elmhurst sports community, we are hosting a meeting so you, and your organization, can learn more about these projects and how they could impact the future of sports opportunities in Elmhurst. The meeting will be held on Monday, September 16 from 6 to 7:15 p.m. at the Wagner Community Center in Multi-purpose Room C (615 West Avenue). District staff and a representative of the Park Board will provide information and answer your questions.

One of the biggest components of the referendum is the replacement of the Wagner Community Center with a larger facility that would include space for multiple sports including gymnasium space for pickleball, basketball, and volleyball; turf for football, baseball, or lacrosse; larger dance and gymnastics spaces; a free indoor walking track and additional multi-purpose spaces to help meet high demand for programs. Other projects proposed as part of the referendum include new outdoor park amenities, including a bandshell in Wilder Park, permanent, heated restroom buildings at four locations (Crestview, Eldridge, and Wilder Parks and along the Prairie Path), and converting a grass field at Berens Park to artificial turf.

These projects are critical since the District doesn’t have the space to meet the community’s park and recreation needs. In 2022 alone, 5,600 people were left on wait lists.

Please click here to RSVP if you can attend this meeting, If you cannot, please forward this information to another representative of your organization so your group is represented at the meeting.

If you have questions, please let me know. To see images of the proposed new and facility and learn more about the referendum, click here.

Thank you,
