Start your week out with a nicely paced road ride. Routes will vary depending on the wind direction and other weather factors, but will all feature one mid-ride rest stop with bathroom, water refills and probably food. Routes will have plenty of open sections to allow faster riders to go ahead with designated regroup points. I expect this ride will be moderately fast, a bit slower than blue skies, but fast enough to get a decent workout.
This is a weekly recurring ride. I will modify each week‘s posting by 7 PM Sunday with the selected route and rest-stop.

We will leave from Pioneer Park, (where there is parking and restroom facilities), take the river path through Knoch Knoll, (restroom break if needed), to Whalen Lake and around, (again restroom break if needed), and then head back the way we came to Pioneer Park for some fellowship at the picnic tables at the end of the ride. Please feel free to bring the beverage or snack of your choice. I have taken this route on several occasions but will be making slight changes throughout the rest of the year to accommodate as many riders as possible. Also, the days are getting shorter so having lights over the next couple of weeks will become mandatory.

*** Check this section for specific updates on this week‘s ride. ***
Come join our highly-social, evening, trail ride that has been a Spring, Summer and Fall tradition since August, 2015, always rolling at the speed-of-fun. :-)
We ride as a team and enthusiastically encourage communication, conversation and laughter - as long as riders prescribe to safe practices such as: communicating about obstacles and maintaining gaps that are appropriate for the speed, terrain and weather conditions.
Your bike must have headlights and tail lights. Avoid using retina-burning, overly-bright and strobing lights since we ride trails as a pack and are usually separated from car and truck traffic. We try to courteously douse headlights when passing pedestrians and fellow riders as we ride into growing darkness.
History has shown that this ride can be done with most any kind of bike, but sometimes conditions can make it tough for narrower tires. You be the judge.
No rider will ever be left behind. We have several bona fide EBC Ride Leaders attending this ride for extra safety. ...But you must make sure that your bike is ready and you are in athletic condition for this distance and pace. Note that 10-12 mph on a trail may take the same effort as 13-16 mph on a road; ...and riding a heavy, fat or mountain bike requires yet additional effort.
Our routes vary from one week to the next. Look for route information on our e-mail list server each week before the ride. Let‘s rock!

Join me for a road ride from Lombard to St. Charles. Note that our return route will be through downtown Wheaton rather than Jewel to Gary, as Gary is closed for construction. I expect to do the Munger Loop (Powis->Stearns->Munger->Smith), so anticipate total mileage closer to 50 miles. Others are always free to bypass or shorten the loop.
We will face some hills, rollers, and open road with narrow shoulders, so a road bike and some road riding experience is highly recommended. Ample regroup opportunities. No one will be dropped.

Calument Fisheries is a small place with great food along the lake front in south Chicago. I‘ve never been there but you can check out their menu here if you‘re interested in joining me. I plan to take the 7:13 AM Metra Union Pacific West Line into Chicago with my bike. The train will arrive around 8 AM at Ogilvie where we will ride east to the lake front trail and take it all the way south and beyond. We will get something to eat and then return the same way on the train. You‘re welcome to take the train with me from Elmhurst or catch the same train at the appropriate stop near your home and meet me on the train or at Ogilvie. There are no bathrooms or indoor eating. I understand there is a park near by we can sit and eat. Let me know if you plan to join me. The link to the menu is https://www.calumetfisheries.com/index.html. Bring water and money if you want to eat.

I always get a kick out of riding up and down Chicago’s Lake Shore Drive with the beautiful views of Lake Michigan and the city - with no cars, just thousands of bicyclists! Come and ride a 100k via Driftless Randonneurs, a region which is part of Randonneurs USA, in Southwestern Wisconsin. NOTE: Must be a member of Randonneurs USA and sign up via Driftless Randonneurs website to participate:
https://rusa.org
From the Driftless Randonneurs USA website:
"This is the first outing in our Rouleur Series. We’re doing a later than normal start to allow those who are coming for the weekend (there’s another event on Sunday) to drive up in the morning. This is a shorter ride so we should all get finished early to late afternoon.
We’ll be doing the always popular route over to Spring Green. We’ve made Spring Green an open control so those who are so inclined can stop at the Spring Green General Store for lunch and of course there are always the alternatives of Culver’s or the Shell station that’s the official control."
64.3 miles, RUSA certified, ridewithgps route here https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31273820

Wauconda High School (free parking)
Sun, Sep 7, 2025 at 6:30 AM
The Harmon 100 rides through the rolling hills of beautiful Lake and McHenry counties in northern Illinois, a very pleasant and varied route. Rest stops with food/drinks. The roads are clearly marked, and there are GPS and Cue Sheets to download.
Starting point is Wauconda High School which is only 30 miles north of Elmhurst, and is an easy no-traffic drive early on Sunday morning. Very Convenient!
I will ride the 100 mile century starting at 6:30am, if any EBC Members want to meet up. Or send me your mileage by end of the day.
Registration for event is required (in advance or on-site):
https://wheelmen.com
Ride Start and In-Person Registration:
Starts at 6:30am
Closes at 7:30am for 100 mile riders
Closes at 8:30am for 75 mile riders
Closes at 10:00am for 50 and 25 mile riders
Sun, Sep 7, 2025 at 7:00 AM
The DCC is one of the most beautiful invitational rides in the midwest crisscrossing the Door County peninsula and featuring spectacular views of Green Bay and Lake Michigan. I plan to ride the century route, leaving around 7 AM. I‘ll submit names for all EBC riders. Contact me ahead of time if you want to coordinate riding together or afterwards with participation information. If there is interest, I am happy to coordinate pre-ride gathering on Saturday evening.
Registration will be selling out soon, so if you are interested in this ride, I recommend registering early.

Come and ride a DART Team event via Driftless Randonneurs, a region which is part of Randonneurs USA, in Southwestern Wisconsin. NOTE: Must be a member of Randonneurs USA and sign up via Driftless Randonneurs website to participate:
https://rusa.org
https://driftlessrandos.org/event/2025-rouleur-dart/
Details via Driftless Randonneurs website:
"This is the second event in our 2025 Rouleur Series. As before, we’ll start the Sunday ride a little earlier so you can finish in time for an early drive home.
We’ll be doing a Dart Populaire Team Event for this ride. This is a ride with a minimum of 120 Km that must be completed in 8 hours. Briefly, the rules are as follows:
Teams consisting of minimum of 3 and no more than 5 riders.
Minimum distance of 120 Km.
A minimum of 25 Km must be ridden in the last 2 hours. This must be verified by a timed and dated receipt.
Three team members must finish together in order to receive credit for the ride.
Any team members not finishing with the rest of the team will not receive credit for the ride.
The complete rules can be found here.
Note that the Dart Populaire counts as a team event for a RUSA cup!
Randonneurs USA Award Details: https://rusa.org/pages/awards
Here’s the plan for the day:
Assuming there will be a lot of solo riders who are interested in doing this ride, we’ll form teams on the day of the ride. The main ground rule is: everybody rides! So don’t worry if you don’t have a team – come anyway! We’ll form or reform teams as necessary to make sure that everybody rides!
Although for longer events e.g., a flèche, it’s customary for riders to form their own teams and develop their own route for this event we’re assuming that most people will be unattached and won’t want to do their own route design. Accordingly, we’ve developed three routes that meet the rules criteria."
NOTE: See website for RWGPS routes to get an idea.

Come join us for a Hump Day Hustle ride in Naperville with not a lot of Hustle!! This is a "No Drop" "Social Ride". The ride will be a little different than the Hump Day Hustle leaving out of Villa Park since the main break will be at the end of the ride and the mileage is a little less.

Let‘s rock!
